Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics partners with Midlands STEM Charter School

The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM), a leader in advanced STEM education, is proud to announce a new partnership with Midlands STEM Charter School (MSCS). This collaboration will provide MSCS students access to GSSM’s nationally recognized Accelerate engineering dualenrollment program and individual online courses, furthering GSSM’s mission to expand high-quality STEM education across South Carolina.

Through Accelerate, GSSM offers a rigorous threeyear dual-enrollment engineering curriculum that allows

students to earn up to 33 college credits in engineering, calculus and physics before graduating high school. Students engage in live, interactive instruction from GSSM’s expert faculty while participating in hands-on summer learning experiences. Additionally, MSCS students will have access to GSSM’s individual online courses, offering advanced coursework in specialized STEM fields.

“This partnership reflects GSSM’s commitment to identifying and empowering exceptional students across South Carolina,” said Dr. Zaria O’Bryant, GSSM’s director of

academic and outreach partnerships. “By bringing world-class STEM education to schools like MSCS, we are preparing the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers who will lead South Carolina’s knowledge economy.”

The MSCS board unanimously approved the partnership during its Dec. 9, 2024, meeting. “This collaboration between two public educational institutions demonstrates a shared commitment to providing students with rigorous, high-quality instruction,” said Dr. TK Kennedy, chief

operations officer at MSCS. “Most importantly, it ensures that our students are learning from highly trained experts in math and science.”

Midlands STEM Charter School, a free public charter school serving students in prekindergarten through 12th grade, is dedicated to fostering critical thinking, lifelong learning and leadership through STEM education.
