FOUNDER ON THE RUNWAY AT SONY HALL, BROADWAY, DURING NY FASHION WEEK

On Friday, September 12, in New York City, I experienced one of the most remarkable and unexpected moments of my life. Invited by the innovative online fashion retailer Actively Black, Iwalked the runway atSony Hall on Broadway before an audience of more than 1,000 enthusiastic Fashion Week attendees.

Runway modelingis certainly not my usual “cup of tea,”but when the invitation came from Laney Smith, former NBA superstar and philanthropist, Icouldn’t say no.Earlier, the South Carolina Civil Rights Museum licensed Smith to feature my image on his high-end apparel line.Injust one month, afterhis collection reached $5o,000 in sales, he generously donated $5,oo0 to support our museum’s mission.

In today’s challenging climate, consciously supporting and shopping with African American community is not just an economic choice-it’s a statement of values. Each purchase can help strengthen the communities whose sacrifices and achievements built the path we walk today. And yes,we need to support Carolina Panorama with ads and donations. Each week, they freely contribute their publication.

Righthere in Orangeburg,South Carolina, directly across from my alma mater Claflin University and neighboring South Carolina State University, we will open America’s newest Civil Rights Museumand South Carolina’s only-in 2026. This will be more than a museum; it will be a living tribute to the courage and legacy of a generation of heroes who paved the way for our opportunities.

Our greatest remaining challenge is funding our operational expenses. As a registered 501(c)(3) cultural institution, every contribution makes a diference. If you are successful today, it is likely because of the sacrifices made by those the museum honors. Please consider helping us sustain their legacy with a tax-deductible donation.

We truly need your support now more than ever!
