Everyday Habits to Help Protect Against Illness This Season

A contingent from the Brookland-Lakeview Empowerment Center (BLEC) Mental Health Awareness Training Initiative provided a remarkable and well-received presentation at the 2024 South Carolina Speech-Language-Hearing Association (SCSHA) Annual Convention held in Spartanburg, S.C. It was the first ever invitation for BLEC’s staff and professional trainers to demonstrate their expertise on mental health awareness at the statewide event.

Focusing on the theme,

“Journey to the Peak of Clinical Excellence,” the BLEC team, consisting of Tori West Oluseyi, Mark Sellers, Reginald Rearden, Joan M. Harris, Benjamin Washington, and Dr. Cindye Richburg Cotton, offered Youth Mental Health First Aid Training to Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) on how to assist youth and teens experiencing mental health or addiction challenges. “We are honored to have the opportunity to present at this convention,” said Richburg Cotton, BLEC executive
