Dr. Walter B. Curry Jr., founder of Renaissance Publications LLC, receive two awards for his contributions in the arts.
Dr. Curry receive the art award for the Upsilon Rho Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc of Bamberg County, South Carolina at the organization annual awards and scholarship program that recognized community members and scholarship recipients. The program took place on the campus of Voorhees University in Denmark, South Carolina on March 16th, 2024. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated was founded on January 16, 1920, on the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. The Upsilon Rho Zeta chapter was founded in February 2006 to support Bamberg County, South Carolina, through community service activities and initiatives.
The Confederation of South Carolina Local Historic Societies awarded Dr. Curry an Award of Merit for his art exhibition “Ancestral Reflections: The Thompson Family” at the organization’s Landmark Conference that took place on
the campus of South Carolina State University on March 22-23rd, 2024. The Confederation was established in 1964 to encourage and strengthen local organizations involved in the preservation and study of historical documents, sites, buildings, and artifacts through the exchange of information and cooperative activities. The Confederation is governed by an executive council made up of statewide officers and regional representatives from ten districts across the state. The confederation established an award program to recognize the special achievements of historical organizations, volunteers in historical organizations, and professionals. Awards are available to member organizations, individuals, and others for outstanding work in promoting and preserving South Carolina’s heritage.
Curry is a native of Orangeburg. He received a bachelor’s degree in political science from South Carolina State University, and has earned graduate degrees in education, including a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Argosy.
