On Sunday, March 2, 2025, Dr. Cheryl Washington was honored at Bible Way Church Atlas Road, in a ceremony led by Senator Darrell Jackson.
“We honored Dr. Cheryl Washington, a longtime member and Senior Elder at Bible Way, this morning for being a faithful and God-fearing trailblazer. In the 90-year History of Columbia International University (CIU), Dr. Washington was the first African-American Female to earn a Doctorate in Ministry with a concentration in Leadership in December 2011,” he said. “Thank you, Dr. Washington,
for being a faithful servant of God, a woman of prayer, and a Christ-like role model for others. May God continue to bless you and smile upon you.”
Dr. Cheryl Washington, a native of Baton Rouge, LA. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from USC in 1995, a Masters in Divinity in 2000 from CIU. Four years after earning her Doctorate in Ministry (DMin) with a concentration in Leadership, Dr. Washington learned she was the first African American Woman to
achieve this milestone at CIU. “I thought they were kidding. It was hard to believe,” she said.
