Doris Glymph Greene to receive Doctor of Humane Letters

Join us for a celebration of the impact of South Carolina’s Briggs v. Elliott lawsuit and the May 17, 1954 success of Brown v. Board of Education at 5:30 PM, Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Brookland Banquet & Conference Center.Briggs v. Elliott, originating in Clarendon County, SC, was the first of five cases that were later combined to form one lawsuit that attacked head on the common practice of separating the nation’s public school students based on race.

Guest speakers will be Mr. Nathaniel Briggs, Dr. Millicent E. Brown, Mr. Joseph DeLaine, Jr., Ms. Celestine Parson Lloyd, Ms. Beatrice Brown Rivers, & Mr. Cecil Williams. USC Center for Civil Rights History & Research Executive Director Dr. Bobby Donaldson will moderate.

Immediately following the event, there will be a book signing from 7:30 – 9:00 PM by the following authors: Ms. Claudia Smith Brinson, Dr. Millicent E. Brown, Mr. James L. Felder, Mr. Michael Harriot, Hub City Press/WeGOJA Foundation/IAAM, Ms. Carolyn Pearson Jenkins, Mr. Bakari Sellers & Mr. Cecil Williams.

This event is presented by Cecil Williams South Carolina Civil Rights Museum, Orangeburg, SC and University of South Carolina Center for Civil Rights History and Research.
