Members and descendants of the esteemed Reverend William Weston Adams, a trailblazing figure in Lower Richland’s history, will gather at New Light Beulah Baptist Church on June 1st, 2025. This momentous occasion brings together the Adams and Gilmore families, kindred spirits connected through Reverend Adams’ son-in-law, John T. Gilmore, and daughter, Mary Maria (Marion) Adams Gilmore.
Reverend William Weston Adams, ordained in 1865, played a pivotal role in shaping the African-American community in Lower Richland. As the first African American pastor of Beulah/ New Light Beulah Baptist, first pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church and later St. James Baptist Church, he left an indelible mark on the region’s history. Despite facing challenges and conflicts, his dedication to his faith and community endured.
