DESA, Inc., a business development and professional services firm, is celebrating 39 years of service to entrepreneurs and small businesses. Founded in 1986 by CEO Diane E. Sumpter, DESA has been the standard bearer when it comes to leadership and education in support of small and minority businesses. Their 39-year history has witnessed and been a part of the development and growth within the business community.

Sumpter, who was recently awarded The Abe VenableLegacy Award for Lifetime Achievement, says, “I’ve always been passionate about serving the underserved. For 39 years, we have guided many small and minority business owners to be informed, to stay the course, and to be prepared for whatever’s next. It takes all of those things and more to be successful, and DESA’s proudly had a hand in that for many businesses

throughout the State of South Carolina and nationwide.”

To mark the occasion, DESA is holding an anniversary celebration that will be attended by government officials, members of the business community, as well as friends of DESA. Guests of honor include Columbia business executive and published author, Dr. Louis B. Lynn, and South Carolina Civil Rights Museum Founder and CEO, Cecil J. Williams.
