Delta House to hold workshop about protecting seniors from scams

Delta House, Inc. will host a workshop for senior citizens about scams, assistance for caregivers and available health services in the community. Information will be presented by the Attorney General’s Office and the office on Aging. The workshop will be held on March 1, 2024 from 11 AM until 2 PM at the Delta Life Development Center, 5307 Fairfield Road, Columbia, SC 29203. Space is limited. You MUST be registered to attend. Lunch will be served.

Dr. Germon “Mama G” Moriniere-Bey wins lifetime pioneer award

Dr. Germon “Mama G” Moriniere-Bey was awarded the “Lifetime Pioneer” award at the prestigious Hall of Honors for 2024 representing the Akeru Afrikan Discipline Sciences.

Mama G competed in the Black Level Division at the “I’m B.A.D.” Tournament under the direction of longtime colleague, Grandmaster Elba “Cookie” Melendez. She captured three first Place Gold Medals.

Toastmasters International announces March meetings

Toastmasters International is the leading nonprofit dedicated to effective oral communication and leadership development. In the last 99 years there have been 4 million members. Members meet to deliver and evaluate prepared and impromptu speeches in an effort to improve as speakers and leaders. Mid-Day club generally meets the first and third Saturdays at 10am to 11am eastern, and the second and fourth Tuesdays at 11:30 am to 12:30 pm eastern. Guests are always welcome.

Mid-Day Toastmasters meets for 1 hour on Saturdays March 2 and March 16, 2024 at 10 am to 11 am and Tuesdays March 12, 2024 and March 26, 2024 at 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Irmo Black History Celebration

The African-American Historical Society of Irmo will present Irmo’s Black History Celebration. The event will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the Irmo High Center for the Arts, located at 6671 Saint Andrews Road, from 5 {: } 3 0 – 8 {: } 3 0 \mathrm { p. m } .

The dress attired is semi-formal. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. Tickets are $20 for adult (17+0 and $10 for youth, available on EventBrite.com.
