Tara L. King’s innovation, leadership and commitment to community service have earned her the 2026 Member of the Year honor from the Delta Eta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated.

Chartered on June 19, 1982, Delta Eta Chapter has celebrated more than four decades of sisterhood, brotherhood, leadership and service to the community. The chapter continues to uphold the vision and legacy of its charter members, including Dr. Jean Hopkins, a founding member who remains an active member of the chapter, and Mary Hunter, a longtime supporter of the chapter’s mission.
King, who was initiated into the sorority in 2012, was honored for her sustained leadership, dedication and commitment to both the chapter and the community. Throughout her membership, she has served as chapter secretary, sergeant-at-arms and technology committee chair, while also contributing to membership development, fundraising and community service initiatives.
King has played a significant role in modernizing the chapter’s operations. She helped transition chapter records from paper to electronic formats and has supported the development and management of the chapter’s website and social media platforms. She also helped implement electronic registration, evaluations and payment options, making chapter activities more accessible and efficient.
King created “Turtle Bytes,” an instructional communication initiative designed to help members strengthen their technology skills and better navigate digital tools.
Her commitment to service extends throughout the Midlands. King has participated in health screenings, health fairs, food distribution events, back-to-school initiatives and numerous other community outreach activities. During the 2025–2026 sorority year, she also maintained perfect attendance at chapter meetings, demonstrating her consistent dedication and involvement.
King’s recognition as Member of the Year celebrates her ongoing commitment to leadership, innovation, sisterhood and service, qualities that continue to strengthen Delta Eta Chapter and its impact on the community.
