On October 25, 2024, The Courage Center in Orangeburg County will host a Save-A-Life Day in the parking lot of Kimbrell’s Furniture Store at 1159 Broughton Street in Orangeburg. This is a rescheduled event from the national event initially planned for September 26th 2024. To combat the growing crises of nonfatal and fatal overdoses due to opioids, Save-A-Life Day started in West Virginia and is now acknowledged in 34 states.
From 11:00 am to 1 {: } 0 0 \mathrm { p m } , The Courage Center and its partners will set up a tent in the parking lot and have harm reduction supplies available free of charge to anyone who wants them.
“There are no forms to complete or information necessary to provide”, says Dr. Pam Imm, a co-founder of The Courage Center which started in 2016 in Lexington SC. “We need to provide all the tools we have to reduce deaths due to opioids including Fentanyl which causes most deaths. Narcan is the overdose antidote and we want to make it widely available.”
The event will include people in recovery who will be available to talk to those who may want services to reduce drug misuse and walk a healthier path. All products will be provided at no cost to those who attend.
