Empowering Young Filmmakers: H.E.R. Production Academy to Kick Off on September 2024
Columbia is about to make history with the launch of its first all-girl production training program, H.E.R. Production Academy, aimed at pre-teens and teenagers with a passion for movies and filmmaking. Scheduled to kick off this September 2024, this innovative program provides young girls with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to turn their dreams into reality.
H.E.R., which stands for Helping Everyone Rise, is built on the belief that collaboration is key to success. The academy offers comprehensive training in all aspects of production, including screenwriting, camera operation, lighting, video editing, and directing. Students will be taught by a combination of local and national industry professionals, ensuring they receive top-notch education and mentorship.
“H.E.R. Production Academy is more than just a training program; it’s a movement to empower the next generation
of female filmmakers,” said Christa Y. Dickey, founder of the academy. “We believe that little girls with dreams become women with vision, and we’re here to support them every step of the way.”
The program meets twice a month on Saturdays, providing a flexible yet rigorous schedule that allows participants to immerse themselves in the world of film production while balancing other commitments.
