the church. She is an engaged and active member of Jones Memorial AME Zion Church in Columbia where she serves as Chair of the Trustee Board, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Christian Education Department, President of the Local Lay Council.

She is an officer and member of the Women Home and Overseas Missionary Society. She also serves in several capacities on the District, Conference, and Connectional levels of the AME Zion Church. Her many years of Lay Council service includes President of the Columbia-Camden District Lay Council, Regional Director of the Southeastern Regional Lay Council. She is an elected delegate for the General Conference of the AME Zion Church where she serves on many committees. Not only is Melton a leader in the faith-based community,

but also the civic community as well. She is the immediate past president of the Columbia Section of the National Council of Negro Women. She is currently serving as President of the Columbia Branch of the National Association of University Women.
