The Columbia Urban League hosted its 10th Annual Project Ready Cotillion. In a society where news of young people is mostly negative, the Columbia Urban League, Inc. proudly presented 26 young ladies and men who exemplify academic and social accomplishment. The purpose
of the Cotillion was to assist the youth in learning how to behave in social situations and develop their social skills. Social skills help students build positive relationships, communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and adapt to different social environments.
Project Ready is a signature National Urban League (NUL) program that seeks to enhance academic and social support to students ages 11-18 as they prepare for post-secondary success. Students are expected to make academic progress, benefit from cul-
tural enrichment opportunities, and be trained for school navigation and life skills development. The Project Ready Program is a unique and comprehensive approach to addressing students’ academic, personal, and social needs.
The National Urban League has recognized the Columbia Urban League’s Project Ready program in consecutive years for winning the Youth Summit Project Ready Case Competition in 2017 and 2018. The case competition is an event held during the National Urban League’s Youth Summit amongst 93 affiliates based on a prompt given by the National Staff.
This year, we had four graduating seniors who will attend various schools: the College of Charleston, Johnson C. Smith University, North Carolina State University, and Winthrop University. These students exemplify academic achievement at its best.
The Columbia Urban League’s 10th Annual Project Ready Cotillion was held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Brookland Banquet & Conference Center, 1066 Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, SC 29169.
