Columbia SC Branch of the NAACP held its annual program commemorating the Life and Legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday afternoon. The event was held at Second Nazareth Baptist Church in Columbia.
Attorney Charles Durant was the guest presenter. He is a retired Vice-President and Assistant General counsel for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). He is a native of Wilmington, NC. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc and is currently affiliated with the Omicron Iota Lambda chapter of Columbia, SC. Durant gave an awesome rendition of the “I Have a Dream” speech.
Jeffrey Lampkin, choir director at Francis Marion University and finalist on season 7 of “American Idol,” gave the audience an outstanding musical performance. The lively performance had the audience standing on their feet.
Columbia SC Branch of NAACP Oveta Glover presented an award to Jeffrey Lampkin and The Francis Marion University YGB Choir. Afterwards, Glover had a heart-to-heart talk with the audience, telling the community to be visible at school board meetings. She encouraged men to talk to boys and encouraging them to vote.
Ending the program with “On Fire For Justice, On Fire For Peace,” Glover thanked Second Nazareth Pastor Rev. Dr. Johnny Ray Noble for hosting the event.
