The excitement level was off the charts. Thousands of Gamecock fans from all over the state lined up on Main Street from Laurel Street to the State Capital. The parade had more than 100 participants.
Mayor Daniel Rickenmann stated that an African American Woman did what no
other coach has done before: going undefeated 38-0 to win a National Championship Title. “What do you give the most winningest coach? The key to the city, a Dawn Staley Day and a statue coming soon,” the Mayor said as he presented her with a National Coach Championship Belt.
Congressman James Clyburn shared that he made a Congressional Proclamation on the House Floor to ensure that what the Lady Gamecocks’ accomplishments will be forever etched in history. A copy of the Congressional proclamation was presented to all the players.
