The Columbia College Board of Trustees has unanimously approved a four-year extension of President John H. Dozier’s employment agreement, extending his leadership through July 2030.

The Board’s action reflects its confidence in the College’s strategic direction and its commitment to leadership continuity as Columbia College continues strengthening its capacity to serve students and communities in an increasingly challenging higher education environment.
“Across the country, colleges and universities are navigating unprecedented demographic, financial, and public policy challenges,” said Tim Arnold, Chair of the Columbia College Board of Trustees. “The Board believes Columbia College is better prepared to meet those challenges because of the strategic foundation that has been established under Dr. Dozier’s leadership. He has strengthened the institution’s capacity to fulfill its mission, positioned it to adapt to a changing higher education landscape, and fostered a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation that will benefit the College for years to come.”
Since becoming Columbia College’s 21st president in 2023, Dr. Dozier has led a comprehensive effort to strengthen the institution’s academic programs, financial foundation, organizational effectiveness, and engagement with the Columbia community.
Under Dr. Dozier’s leadership, Columbia College has restored consistent positive operating performance, expanded philanthropic support, grown enrollment while maintaining a strong focus on student success and affordability, and strengthened the institution’s capacity to invest in its people and mission. These outcomes reflect a broader commitment to building an institution that is financially disciplined, academically distinctive, and positioned to thrive despite the significant challenges facing higher education.
The College has strengthened its organizational capacity by aligning its academic and administrative structures with strategic priorities, clarifying leadership accountability, and fostering greater collaboration across the institution. Academic programs have been aligned more closely with workforce and community needs, organizational structures have been refined to improve collaboration and decision making, and partnerships throughout the Midlands have expanded opportunities for students while contributing to the vitality of surrounding communities.
“I am deeply grateful for the confidence the Board has placed in me and honored to continue serving Columbia College,” said Dr. Dozier. “This extension reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, trustees, donors, and community partners. Together, we have strengthened Columbia College’s capacity to fulfill its mission while remaining grounded in the values that have defined this institution for more than 170 years. I believe our greatest opportunities lie ahead, and I look forward to continuing that work together.”
Over the next several years, Columbia College will continue implementing its strategic vision by strengthening student success, investing in faculty and staff, expanding mission-aligned academic programs, deepening community partnerships, improving institutional effectiveness, and ensuring the College remains responsive to the evolving needs of students, employers, and the communities it serves.
