Columbia celebrates Juneteenth with Black Eats Week 803

The 2nd Annual Black Eats Week 803 is taking place this week. Nine Black-owned food establishments are participating in this year’s festivities, which began on June 17 and will end on June 23, 2024. Established in 2023, Black Eats Week 803 (BEW803) aims to highlight and support Black entrepreneurs in the food industry, providing a platform that creates awareness and allows diners the opportunity to discover new favorites while supporting their local community. The week will feature special menus and promotions at participating businesses.

“We are so proud to host the 2nd annual Black Eats Week 803 and bring together such a talented, diverse group of restaurateurs,” said Khali Gallman, founder. “This event is not just about enjoying great food; it’s about supporting and uplifting our local Black-owned businesses while celebrating their contributions to our community. We will have representation of a variety of different cuisines, including Trinidadian, Jamaican, West African, the Low Country, and other traditional Southern favorites. We encourage everyone to come out and experience the amazing flavors and warm hospitality that our participating establishments have to offer.”

The 2024 list of participants include:

  • Rebel Dogs, 504 Gervais Street
  • Calabash Caribbean Grill, 817 St. Andrews Road, Suite 106
  • Mr. Seafood Northeast, 494 Town Center Place
  • Ms. B’s Southern Soul Food, 676 St. Andrews Road
  • Annie B’s Mini Donuts (Food Truck)
  • Indulge N Pts, 5708 N. Main Street, Suite D
  • Trini Lime Caribbean Café, 2008 State Street (Cayce)
  • Just A Touch, 7201 Two Notch Road, Suite FC5 (inside Columbia Place Mall)
  • Le Bambou, 10203 Two Notch Road

Two of the restaurants, Mr. Seafood Northeast and Just A Touch, recently celebrated their one-year anniversary. Demond Caldwell, owner of Mr. Seafood Northeast, a renowned local seafood restaurant franchise, said, “Black Eats Week 803 is a fantastic platform for us to connect with new customers and share our passion for delicious food. We have some exciting promotions for seafood lovers, including salmon bite specials and our popular Junior Combo, which includes a crab cluster, shrimp, sausage, corn, egg, and potato. Come see us at the Village at Sandhills; it’s going to be a great week.”

Gayle Bradley, owner and chef of Just A Touch, celebrated the restaurant’s one-year anniversary last week. They will continue their anniversary promotion by offering discounts of 10% and more (up to a free meal immediately) for customers who choose to spin the wheel. Customers will also have a chance to win free treats like pound cake and peach cobbler (family-sized, not individual portions!). “Black Eats Week 803 gives us the opportunity to give back as much as we receive. We are big on service,” said Gayle Bradley. “We have had a very successful first year, and this week gives people who may not have learned about us yet an opportunity to learn about our menu and specials. Come by and spin the wheel!”

Details of the week will be exclusively offered on the FREE Soda City Certified app and the Black Eats Week 803 website. Customers will have a chance to win cash prizes for patronizing these restaurants and participating in the BINGO board game. BINGO boards will be given at each participating location or may be downloaded on the website. Once you post your meal and receipt and tag @BlackEatsWeek803 on Instagram, you will be entered in the contest. The more entries, the better the chance of winning.
