City of Columbia hosts Book Drive for Little Libraries Initiative

The City of Columbia Office of the Mayor is excited to announce a community book drive to support the launch of new “Little Libraries” initiative.

As part of the Columbia Streams Art public art program, local youth groups from City of Columbia Parks have creatively upcycled newspaper boxes, transforming them into vibrant Little Libraries that will be

unveiled across North Columbia in August. These charming boxes will provide easy access to books for children and families and encourage the “take one, leave one” practice.

From Thursday, July 11, 2024, through Wednesday, July 31, 2024, residents are encouraged to donate gently used youth books to the book drive to seed the launch of the Little Libraries. Donations can be

made at the City of Columbia City Hall, located at 1737 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201.

This effort not only promotes literacy but fosters a sense of community and sustainability by repurposing materials for a new cause. Join the City of Columbia in this endeavor to spread the joy of reading and jumpstart the Little Libraries initiative in the Capital City.
