The NAACP and The Civil Rights Celebration hosted the 1964 Homecoming Celebration, an event commemorating the 60th anniversary of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964. The event took place on January 25, 2025 at the Orangeburg Conference Center, and honored the courageous contributions of local and national civil rights leaders while inspiring the next generation to continue the fight for equality and justice.
The celebration brought the community together in recognition of the sacrifices
made during the civil rights movement. With a focus on education, remembrance, and inspiration, attendees had the opportunity to learn about the historical impact of the Civil Rights Act and its ongoing relevance in today’s society.
“The Civil Rights Act of 1964 represents a pivotal moment in our nation’s history,” said Tyrone Dash, Project Leader. “This celebration is not only about honoring those who paved the way but also about empowering our youth to uphold the legacy of justice and equality for all.”
The event featured a variety of activities, including keynote addresses by prominent civil rights advocates, panel discussions, and a showcase of historical exhibits. Local students and community members also participated in performances and workshops designed to educate and engage future leaders in the principles of civil rights advocacy.
