Calling Black Authors Exhibit to feature Black authors

The Calling Black Authors will celebrate the launch of an amazing tour of literacy, featuring books written by Black authors and stories of Black heroism. This exhibit is designed to preserve Black stories in the midst of books being banned at alarming rates.

There will be a kids’ writing workshop for the purpose of publishing a children’s book. A special presentation as it relates to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Dr. Carter G Woodson, Aturo Schomberg, and Frederick Douglas. Remarks by the nephew of Dr. Carter

G. Woodson. A mini-lecture on the fight for a Presidential Medal of Freedom for Corporal Waverly Woodson, The Orangeburg Massacre and the Sixteenth Street Bombing. Mini Black History Lessons, book/vendor fair and more.

The event will be held on Saturday January 17, 2026 starting at 9AM Reid Chapel AME Church 704 Gabriel Street Columbia SC 29203.
