Brookland-Lakeview Empowerment Center to launch $ 1 Million Capital Campaign

Bogan Hall will be the site when Brookland-Lakeview Empowerment Center (BLEC) launches a $1 million Capital Campaign to develop a stateof-the-art Lakeview School Museum on Saturday, August 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 1218 Batchelor Street in West Columbia, the center’s location.

The campaign was organized through a partnership between the Greater Lakeview Alumni Association and BLEC. Funds raised will be used to highlight the rich history of Lakeview School, which existed from 1925 to 1968 as an all-black high school in West Columbia prior to the desegregation of public schools in South Carolina. Erected in 2020, a historical marker from the South Carolina Department of Archives and History adorns the Lakeview School campus to honor its historical significance.

The campaign will also celebrate the distinguished life and legacy of Reverend Dr.
