Brookland Foundation to host 22nd Annual Community Health Fair

The Brookland Foundation’s 22nd Annual Community Health Fair will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This year’s theme is “Empowering, Educating, and Encouraging the Community to Live a Healthy Lifestyle.” This event is sponsored by the Brookland Foundation’s Health and Wellness Program and will be held on the Brookland Baptist Church campus in the Health and Wellness Center located at 1066 Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, South Carolina. Each year the Health Fair brings in nearly 600 individuals.

Each year, approximately 70 vendors attend, making our Health Fair eventful and informative for all! Without support from local businesses, community organizations and individuals, the Health Fair would not exist. The generous support of community partners and sponsors is vital to this annual event.

The health fair is a wonderful way to create awareness about health care issues, offer free health screenings and inform the public of the variety of services available within our local communities. Panel discussions which engage and educate participants on issues that are prevalent in our communities will be the highlight of the day. Exhibits and healthy products, brochures, and information from local businesses and organizations, as well as local entertainment, and door prizes will be made available. Local healthcare organizations and community groups will be available to screen for Breast Cancer, Diabetes, Prostate Cancer, Sickle Cell Anemia, and Blood Pressure. The City of Columbia Police, the 9 Foot Deputy from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, and Lexington County Fire Department join us annually and participants are encouraged to interact with them.

Pamela Greene-Long, Certified Personal Trainer and Wellness Coach, and author of Women, Weight and God, will open the health fair activities with an Aerobic Exercise routine to get all in attendance, active, invigorated, and moving. Local entertainment will be provided. Franklin Jones and We Are One Line Dance Community will close the event with line dancing for all. Brookland’s very own Minister of Music, Mr. Harold Brooker, will serve as Minister of Ceremonies.

Brookland Foundation’s Health & Wellness Program’s goal is to improve the quality of life for individuals and families throughout the Midlands by empowering them to take charge of their health. This is what the Health Fair is all about, achieving great health for everyone. Our goal is to teach each other, as a community, so we can decrease the numbers in negative statistics. We are working diligently to make sure this year’s Community Health Fair is an even greater success. We thank you for your continued support as we work to close the gap in health disparities and ensure quality healthcare for all. Please direct any questions regarding the event to Katrina Bridgette, Health Fair Chairperson,803-261-4723, or Adreane Grant, Brookland Foundation Health & Wellness Program Director, 803-446-3260, or email us at hwguild@brookland.cc.
