The Blessing Boutique LLC is making waves as a hub for creativity, community support, and local artisans. The boutique, founded by Renee Glenn, offers a unique blend of handcrafted items and personalized services, all while fostering a sense of togetherness within the creative community.

Born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx, Glenn moved to South Carolina in 2015, prompted by her husband’s mother’s battle with cancer. She decided to stay in the Midlands after her mother-in-law died.

“The quality of life is better. The people are more friendly and it’s affordable,” she noted.

Glenn has always had an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong desire to give back to the community. Her initial business in South Carolina was an event hall in West Columbia. Eventually, she turned her focus to helping others with their businesses, using her skills in marketing and community outreach.

Glenn also had a strong creative streak, and always enjoyed creating a wide variety of arts and crafts. This led her to launch The Blessing Boutique LLC on October 17, 2024. The boutique offers a variety of custom-made items, including greeting cards, T-shirts, cups, and door hangers.

“We make our own greeting cards. We make our own T-shirts. We spin our own cups,” Rene explains, emphasizing the shop’s dedication to handcrafted goods.

A significant portion of the boutique’s products comes from local artisans, providing them a platform to showcase and sell their creations. From phone cases to painted apparel, Rene works with artists to promote their work, fostering an environment of collaboration and mutual support.

“If they’re willing to work with us,” she says, “I try to give them an opportunity to showcase their stuff.”

Among the most popular items at The Blessing Boutique are African-American greeting cards. Rene customizes these

cards to order, ensuring that each purchase is personal and meaningful. Jewelry and other handcrafted items also attract customers, further highlighting the boutique’s diverse offerings.

Beyond selling goods, The Blessing Boutique also provides customized services for events like birthday parties and family reunions. From banners to wine glasses, personalized cups and tumblers, coco bombs and chocolate covered strawberries, T-shirts to personalized gifts, Rene leverages her network of artisans to meet the unique needs of her customers. If someone has just an idea for a personalized item, she believes that someone in her network can create it.

“It’s very rare that I don’t know somebody that knows how to do some sort of gift,” Glenn said.

She also works to meet the needs of people in the community by operating a food bank.

“I am a member of a Christian sorority, and one of the sisters in Maryland was doing these food giveaways,” Glenn recalled. “She had the first Black-owned food bank in Maryland. I was like, this would be awesome to have that here. I figured, if we’re going to have a space, I might as well find a way to use it to help our community.”

Once a month, usually on the fourth Saturday, Glenn hosts a food giveaway featuring fresh, healthy food items.

“You’ll never get anything canned from us,” she said. “We only do fresh food. We have items like zucchini, spaghetti squash, potatoes, and yams. Sometimes we have meat and pasta.”

Glenn finances the food bank out of her own pocket.

She also takes donations.

“It’s five of us, and we pool our money together, Glenn said. “We been doing this for 13 or 14 months now, just feeding the community. Some people come in and they give donations.”

Some people also donate food and household supplies.

“This month, I have Pampers and cleaning supplies,” Glenn said. “We never know what we’re gonna get.”

When she first started, Glenn served around 30 families. Now she usually serves over 300 people each time she hosts a giveaway. She has even had people come from as far away as North Carolina and Georgia.

Glenn says that she is grateful to be a blessing to others.

“We don’t know the disposition of the people come to us,” she said “Sometimes we serve people who don’t have a home. We have all kinds of people from all different walks of life, and we just want to make sure that when they come, that they’re served with love. We just want to be a blessing.”

Although the giveaways are typically held on the fourth Saturday, that time is not set in stone. The schedule may change because of holidays or when she gets a larger influx of donations. She urges people to check The Blessing Boutique’s Facebook page (@page)for more information on the next giveaway.
