Voorhees University to be among inaugural schools
The Black AIDS Institute (BAI), the nation’s only Black HIV organization focused on ending HIV in Black America, is thrilled to announce the historic HBCU partner consortium and launch of BAI’S BHIVE (Black HIV Epidemic) program in collaboration with Jarvis Christian University, Voorhees University, Johnson C. Smith University, and LeMoyne-Owens College. The Black AIDS Institute will host a series of events in celebration of the partnership and program launch at LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, TN on October 8th and 9th.
Launched in 2023, BAI’s BHIVE program is a HRSA-funded program with a mission to end the HIV/AIDS
epidemic in Black communities by mobilizing students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and surrounding community members into a compassionate workforce dedicated to improving outcomes for Black people.
The program consists of a BHIVE Course, a sixmodule course facilitated that explores the effects of marginalization of Black communities throughout the HIV continuum of care, the BHIVE Internship which is an internship program for students who have completed course material and are eligible for a competitive paid internship and mentoring from HIV/AIDS professionals, and BHIVE Ambassadors and Mentors Program, which
are HIV/AIDS professionals who are selected to promote the BHIVE course, plan and participate in campus events to increase awareness, and mentor student interns.
“As we celebrate BAI’s 25th anniversary this year, it is vital that we galvanize students at HBCUs to connect with them by empowering them with knowledge and resources to combat HIV/ AIDS through the BHIVE program,” said Grazell Howard, Esq, Board Chair at BAI. “Our goal for this historical partnership is to help prepare the next generation of leaders, researchers, and educators to help not only sterilize stigma but deliver quality HIV field service.”
