Award-winning author, global speaker, and Bowman, South Carolina native Bernice Johnson marked her 53rd birthday not with gifts for herself, but by giving back to women who give so much to others. As a single mother herself, Johnson chose to celebrate this milestone by hosting her first intimate women’s empowerment birthday brunch, titled Color Me Happy, The Launch Experience: Her Birthday, Their Healing; intentionally created to uplift and honor single women, especially single mothers who courageously navigate life’s challenges, often unseen and unheard.

Held on December 20, 2025, at One Columbia Arts and Culture, the gathering welcomed 20 remarkable women for a heartfelt morning of connection, encouragement, and restoration. More than a brunch, the event served as a sacred space designed to pour love, affirmation, and hope into women who may not always receive the support they so deeply deserve and need.

“For me, this was a celebration of gratitude,” Johnson shared. “It was a reflection of the many blessings God has poured into my life and a recognition of the woman He has called me to be, one who gives back with intention, authenticity and love.”

Each attendee was treated to a beautifully prepared brunch and a thoughtfully curated self-care treasure box inspired by Johnson’s recently released coloring book, Color Me Happy: One Color at a Time. The experience also included healing therapy through the art of coloring

and creativity, allowing participants to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with themselves in a calming and restorative way. The morning was further enriched with inspirational and spiritual encouragement, creating an atmosphere of peace, sisterhood, and renewal.

The event left a lasting impact, fostering meaningful connections and heartfelt support among the women. In a safe and nurturing environment, participants were given the opportunity to breathe, reflect, be affirmed, and most importantly be celebrated.

This inaugural empowerment brunch marks the beginning of what Johnson hopes will become an annual tradition of giving, hope, healing, and honoring women one celebration at a time.
