Dr. Joshua Spivey has been appointed as the new director of career development services at Benedict College.

Spivey says, “My reasoning behind wanting to join the Benedict family is because of my love for HBCUs and for the great work that I have been hearing coming from Benedict. From the Harambee Festival to the B.E.S.T. Lives Center to the Serving Learning and Internship opportunities provided by the Department of Career Development Services, there are many spaces for students to take advantage of.”
Before coming to Benedict, Spivey served as the career center executive director at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland.
Spivey has specific plans to not only impact the success of our students but also improve local, state, and national engagement. “I can anticipate my role as the Director of Career Development Services to do three things: 1) Increase the number of employer and community partners to work with Benedict, 2) Increase student engagement with Career Development Services, and 3) Increase the opportunities for students and staff to be involved with Career Development on and off campus,” says Spivey.
Vice President of Academic Affairs Janeen Witty, Ph. D., describes Spivey’s enthusiasm to get started on day one. “Dr. Spivey brings extensive experience in developing meaningful relationships with business and industry partners to align with our strategic priorities. He is already meeting with leaders in our community to strengthen partnerships to provide quality internships and job placements after graduation. We are delighted to welcome him to Benedict, and we look forward to exceptional opportunities from his team for our students,” says Witty.
Spivey earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Bowie State University in Maryland, a Master of Science degree from The New School in New York, and an Ed.D. from Morgan State University in Maryland.
Spivey is a member of the National Career Development Association, the National Association of Colleges and Employers, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
