The music world is mourning the loss of Angie Stone, the Grammy-nominated R&B and neo-soul singer, who tragically passed away at the age of 63. Stone was involved in a fatal car accident early Saturday morning, March 2nd, in Montgomery, Alabama.

Stone was traveling with members of her band from Mobile, Alabama to Atlanta when their van collided with a semi-truck on Interstate 65. The Mercedes Benz Sprinter flipped over on the road before it collided with the truck. Stone, who was a passenger in the van, was declared dead at the scene. Eight other passengers of the van were injured and transported to hospitals for treatment.

Born Angela Laverne Brown on December 18, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone began her musical journey with The Sequence, the first all-female group to sign with Sugar Hill Records. The group released three albums and their iconic track “Funk You Up,” which has been widely sampled

by artists such as Bruno Mars and Dr. Dre. Stone later transitioned to a solo career, producing hits like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” and “Brotha”. She was also a member of the R&B trio Vertical Hold.

In addition to her musical career, Stone was also an actress, appearing in several

films and television shows. She made guest appearances on popular series like Lincoln Heights and had roles in movies such as The Fighting Temptations alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyoncé.

Stone is survived by her children, Diamond Stone and Michael D’Angelo Archer II.
