SC State drama professor to speak at American Business Women’s Association Day luncheon

South Carolina State University’s Ursula O. Robinson will deliver the keynote address at the American Business Women’s Association’s (ABWA) Empower Her Chapter luncheon in Columbia on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

Robinson, an SC State drama professor, has received national attention for her roles in “Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black” on Amazon Prime and “Beauty in Black” on Netflix.

The “Celebrating HERstory Awards — Transforming Lives Luncheon and Reception” will begin at noon at the DoubleTree Hotel & Conference Center, 2100 Bush River Road, in conjunction with the third-annual ABWA Day at South Carolina’s State House.

“I am honored to serve as a speaker celebrating the strength, resilience, and innovation of women in business,” Robinson said. “As an artist and educator, I believe that creativity and leadership go hand in hand, empowering women to break barriers and shape the future. This is a good time to be empowered as

a woman and leader.”

Robinson is a graduate of Shaw University, an HBCU in Raleigh, North Carolina. After being an adjunct professor at North Carolina A&T and teaching in public schools for nearly two years, she joined SC State University as a drama professor. She is the Professional Drama Program’s academic coordinator and advises the Henderson-Davis Players.

As March is Women’s History Month, the ABWA event will bring together people to celebrate women, their contributions to the

workforce, their achievements and to empower each other.

ABWA Day will begin at 9 a.m. with a visit to the State House, where attendees will have the opportunity to meet influential leaders, have meaningful conversations, share perspectives, and make their voices heard. Following the State House visit, the conference will move to the DoubleTree for the luncheon and reception from 1 2 \mathrm { – } 3 \mathrm { p }. \mathrm { m } .

Presented by ABWA’s Empower Her Chapter in Orangeburg, the luncheon also will include ABWA featured speaker. Dr. Gail Hamilton, a retired captain of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service. Hamilton was selected as the 2025 American Business Woman at the ABWA National Women’s Leadership Conference in September.
