The South Carolina Department of Education has selected Alcorn Middle School as a recipient of the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant for the 2025-2026 school year.
The program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, awards schools and community learning centers that are dedicated to providing enrichment opportunities for students
beyond the traditional school day.
The grant, which is worth $141,674.79, will help expand Alcorn’s after-school programs, offer more targeted academic support and create a safe, enriching environment where students can thrive beyond the classroom.
“Being selected for this grant is a powerful affirmation of the work we’re doing at Alcorn Middle School. This
grant represents more than funding—it’s an investment in our students’ futures and a recognition of our commitment to academic excellence, enrichment and community engagement. I am deeply honored and excited about the opportunities this will create for our scholars and their families,” said Alcorn Principal Kreshella Goodman.
