Women’s History Month in the Age of AI: Who Designs the Future Decides the Power

Women’s History Month has always been about reflection. This year, it must also be about participation.

We are living through another industrial shift. Artificial intelligence now influences hiring decisions, lending, healthcare coordination, education, and small business operations. It shapes what we see, what we qualify for, and sometimes what we are denied.

The question is not whether AI will exist. It will.

The question is who is building it.

History reminds us that women have long shaped innovation. Ada Lovelace laid the foundation for computer programming. Katherine Johnson calculated trajectories that made space travel possible. Their work was structural. It influenced outcomes.

Today, AI is the new structural layer of society.

Women remain underrepresented in AI development and venture-backed technology. Minority women even more so. That matters because algorithms learn from data, and data reflects history. When decision-making tables lack diversity, blind spots scale quickly.

Design is Power

Women’s History Month cannot only celebrate resilience. It must examine authority. Are women shaping the systems that will determine economic mobility, workforce transitions, and access to capital? Are we preparing girls to build technology or only to use it?

These are economic questions, not symbolic ones.

On March 8 at 8:00 p.m., I will be addressing the current state of women and artificial intelligence, examining representation, economic implications, and what meaningful participation should look like in our communities. International Women’s Day should be more than acknowledgment. It should be strategy.

Who designs the future decides the power.

In the age of AI, the issue is not whether women will be impacted. The issue is whether we will help architect what comes next.
