Greenfield Farms to host inaugural Derby Day Celebration

Greenfield Farm is rolling out the red carpet this fall for its first-ever Derby Day celebration, set for Saturday, October 18, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with music and entertainment carrying into the evening hours.

Organized by the BCE Society, the one-day event promises to bring together the elegance of derby fashion with

the proud traditions of Black horsemanship. Guests will enjoy a unique experience that blends the excitement of the farm’s famous Black Cowboy Festival, now in its 28th year, with new features honoring the legacy of Black jockeys, walking horse competitors, and equestrian jumpers.

Derby Day is designed to be as much a social affair as it is a cultural one. Expect to see ladies in wide-brimmed hats and stylish dresses, gentlemen in linen suits and boater hats, all gathered to enjoy a refined atmosphere.

Live jazz and blues performances will set the tone, adding a sophisticated twist that distinguishes the day from Greenfield’s western-themed events.

Food and fellowship will also take center stage. A brunch will be served from noon to \textbf { 3 } \mathbf { p. m. } , while a variety of food trucks will be on hand throughout the day to cater to general admission guests. Brunch tickets are required brunch.

With its mix of style, tradition, and entertainment, Derby Day at Greenfield Farm is shaping up to be a new community favorite. Come out and learn about the history of the first Derby Day held in Kentucky. Come learn about the first Kentucky Derby of 1875, where 13 of the 15 jockeys were Black, many having been formerly enslaved or the children of formerly enslaved. Lots of fun, food the whole day. This is an event for the whole family. For details about the event and the full lineup, visit www. wearegreenfieldfarms.com or call 803-499-9658.
