South Carolina will celebrate National Walking Day on Wednesday, April 1, with a free, family-friendly walking treasure hunt designed to support heart health, brain health and social connection for people of all ages.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at 65 Woodcross Drive in Columbia. Participants can walk at their own pace while following treasure hunt clues, answering trivia questions and taking part in brain health activities along the trail. Water stations, light snacks, small prizes and community resource tables also will be available.
“National Walking Day is a great reminder that
simple, everyday movement can support our health and well-being,” said Charmaine Fuller-Cooper, State Director of AARP South Carolina. “This event is a fun way for people to get active, connect with neighbors, and discover local resources that can help them live well as they age.”
The walking treasure hunt reflects AARP’s mission to empower people to choose how they live as they age. Regular walking can support heart health, help manage stress, strengthen balance and mobility, and contribute to brain health, especially when paired with social connection and mental engagement.
Along the route, participants will have opportunities to connect with community organizations offering information, tools and local resources related to health, financial security and overall wellbeing. AARP South Carolina is hosting the event as part of its ongoing work to help build stronger, healthier communities across the state.
The event is open to individuals and families of all ages and may be especially helpful for adults 50-plus, caregivers and anyone looking for a welcoming way to stay active and engaged in the community. Registration is encouraged to help plan for snacks, prizes and materials.
