3rd Annual Historic Atlantic Beach Fun Run to honor HBCU’s and the Divine 9

The 3rd Annual Historic Atlantic Beach Fun Run will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

Atlantic Beach, South Carolina, fondly known as The Black Pearl, is a historically rich African American community in Horry County, South Carolina. Dividing the Town of North Myrtle Beach along the Grand Strand, Atlantic Beach is the only remaining African American owned and governed beach municipality in the country.

This community was founded on October 11, 1934, when George Tyson, an astute African American business owner, purchased 47 acres of land along the ocean front to provide residences for the “colored workers” who served the white establishments along the Grand Strand.
