2024 Palmetto Cyber Summit to host Shaping the Future of Digital Security

Mrs. Kathy Mitchell Hope departed this earthly life on January 9, 2024. She was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on October 5, 1955. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Vilean Moseley Mitchell.

Kathy was educated in the public schools of Richland County School District One. She graduated from C.A. Johnson High School. Kathy received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of South Carolina.

Kathy was employed as a Social Studies teacher in Richland District One for thirty-two years. She retired from District One in May 2011. Kathy taught at the following schools: W. G. Sanders Middle School (August 1980 – May 2011), Logan Alternative School (August 1979 – June 1980), and Eau Claire High School (February 1979 – June 1979). Kathy was also a part-time instructor at Benedict College during the spring semesters of 1991 and 1996.

At an early age, she began attending Zion Baptist Church. Kathy joined Zion at the age of ten. She was actively involved in the church throughout her life. Her current church organizational involvements included the Arsenal Hill Circle, Historic Ministry, and Women of Wisdom Ministry. Kathy was a member of the Drew Wellness Senior Fellowship.

She was united in holy matrimony to William Kenneth Hope on June 25, 1983. To this union one child, Letitia Antoinette, was born.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband, William K. Hope; her daughter, Letitia A. Hope; stepson, Kevin K. (Beverly) Hope of Columbia, South Carolina; god-daughter, Ebony C. Howell of Smyrna, Georgia; three step-grandchildren, Ashley Furtick of Columbia,

South Carolina, Jordan Cunningham of Daegu, South Korea, and Aalysha Hope of Columbia, South Carolina; three step-great grandchildren, Kortney, Aiden, and Makhi Jackson; a brother, Michael S. Ishmael of Columbia, South Carolina; aunt, Alfreda Offutt of Washington, D.C.; two sisters-in-law, Sarah (James) Washington and Diane Quattlebaum of Columbia, South Carolina; sister friends, Patricia Briggs, Maranda S. Evans of Columbia, South Carolina, and Joan McMillan Wickham of Newport News, Virginia; three brothers-in-law, Jasper L. (Thelma) Hope, Askin O. (Patricia) Hope of Columbia, South Carolina, and John W. Entzminger, Sr. of Blythewood, South Carolina; nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Service is Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Zion Baptist Church 801 Washington Street, Columbia, SC 29201; (Leevy’s funeral is in charge)
